Essences, whether they are synthetic or from a natural source, like plants and animals, are dissolved into alcohol in different concentrations to create a fragrance, depending on how long the Noses want their creation to last. Parfum, which is the most concentrated form of fragrances, is usually around 40% essence and has a duration of six to eight hours. Eau de Parfum has an essence concentration of 20% and a longevity of five to six hours, while Eau de Toilette and Eau de cologne have essence concentrations of 15% and 4% and durations of four to five hours and two to three hours respectively. The lowest concentration goes to Eau fraiche, with an essence concentration of 1-3% and lasts only one to two hours.
